Procedures for Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Greeters/Ushers (Revised 9/08 )
LECTORS: 2nd Lector leads procession and carries PROCESSIONAL CROSS. 1st Lector follows cross bearer in procession and carries LECTIONARY. 1st Lector reads the 1st Reading and RESPONSORIAL PSALM. 2nd Lector reads 2nd Reading.
ALL LECTORS should prepare the reading in advance project voice, read with expression and have occasional eye contact with the congregation.
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS:
First name on the list is MINISTER OF THE BREAD. Next two are MINISTERS OF THE CUP. MINISTER OF THE BREAD
Towards the end of “LAMB of GOD”, bring the Ciborium from the tabernacle to the altar and stand nearest the Celebrant.
MINISTERS OF THE CUP Approach the altar together and bow. Then proceed to the left side of the altar, and stand beside the MINISTER OF THE BREAD. After all three have received the Host, the Celebrant gives one cup to the Minister nearest him, who partakes of the wine and offers it to the next person, Father gives the second cup to the remaining Minister.
MINISTER OF THE BREAD Proceeds to the right side of the altar and distributes the Host to the musicians, then stand next to the Celebrant. After all have received Communion wait for the Celebrant to give you the Ciborium, return it to the tabernacle and return to your seat.
MINISTERS OF THE CUP. One goes to the right side of the altar and administers the wine to the musicians. The other Minister stands on left side of the altar, standing in a position where those not wishing to partake of the wine have room to pass. Each should consume remaining wine after all parishioners have partaken, then place the Chalice on the altar. Proceed together to the center aisle bow towards the altar and return to your seats.
GREETERS/USHERS Welcome all and pass out missals. Be aware of empty seats and show people to them before setting up extra chairs. Open back doors in accordance with the weather and size of congregation. Select a parishioner for the WELCOMING GREETING, Father Theo requests that you inform him of your selection before you approach that person. You will receive a short script, which provides you with: • The items needed to be announced, but you are free to state them in your own way. • Pass collection baskets at Offertory, and if there is a second collection do so after communion. • Select at least 2 /3 people for the Offertory Procession, one person to carry the water, one for the wine and another for the paten containing the Host. The collection basket is brought up by one of the greeters
